This week’s episode is the final interview from the “How to CTO” event at Boulder Startup Week, an interview with Scott Brave.

Scott is the CTO of FullContact, a company in Denver with teams in Europe and Asia, so he has some really interesting advice on distributed workforces. Also, Scott is an academic researcher in a former life and is the best person I’ve ever talked to about algorithms and scaling engineering.

In Boulder Colorado during the summer of 2015, @owocki and @miles_matthias were spending a lot of time in bars, coffee shops, and at meetup events, talking about startup engineering leadership. We have computer science backgrounds and lots of experience with OO design, version control, and web technologies, but not a ton of experience in the black arts of people management, hiring and recruiting, and leadership.

Our Monthly Startup CTO Meetup started as a means of changing all that. Boulder has a critical mass of startup engineering talent and an inclusive, welcoming, collaborative community. Why not get everyone together once every few weeks to exchange war stories? We only have one rule: No pitching, no self promotion. We usually do lunches, but have been known to do an occasional happy hour or meetup event as well.
